"God of War Ragnarok Marks 20th Anniversary with Dark Odyssey Update"
Sony and Santa Monica Studio have unveiled the Dark Odyssey collection, an exciting update for God of War Ragnarök set to launch next week. This update brings a range of in-game equipment themed around one of the franchise's most iconic outfits, enhancing the gaming experience for players on PlayStation 5 and PC.
In a detailed PlayStation.Blog post, Sony outlined the extensive celebrations planned for the God of War 20th anniversary. The Dark Odyssey update, arriving as a free patch on March 20, is a highlight of these festivities. It introduces a sleek black-and-gold aesthetic that will revamp the appearances of Kratos, Atreus, Freya, and various shields and weapons within the Norse mythology setting of the game.
The centerpiece of the Dark Odyssey collection is undoubtedly the new appearance and armor set for Kratos, reminiscent of a skin previously exclusive to those who conquered God of War 2 on God Mode difficulty. Players can access this content through any Lost Items chest in the base game or directly in the roguelike Valhalla mode post-update. Additionally, this patch introduces the ability to customize Kratos' weapons' appearances without impacting their abilities, adding a new layer of personalization to the gameplay.

Given that God of War Ragnarök was released in late 2022, a single update alone couldn't possibly encapsulate the series' rich 20-year history. Sony has thus planned a comprehensive celebration for God of War fans. This includes a variety of engaging activities and offers such as downloadable social media assets (available here), an art showcase in collaboration with Los Angeles' Gallery Nucleus, new merchandise, sales, and multiple vinyl releases that pay homage to the franchise’s legacy.
Santa Monica Studio expressed their gratitude towards the fans, stating, "On behalf of everyone at Santa Monica Studio, we are immeasurably grateful to have had the chance to build the legacy of this series with and for you, the fans of God of War."
For those eager to delve deeper into the celebrations, you can explore the upcoming PlayStation symphony world tour starting next month. Additionally, read about why the next God of War title needs to maintain its creative edge.
