Canceled Batman Arkham Knight Sequel Art Shows Grizzled Bruce Wayne

by Alexander Jan 01,2026

Concept art from a canceled Batman: Arkham Knight sequel featuring Damian Wayne as the Dark Knight has surfaced online, revealing new details about an aged Bruce Wayne.

The Lost Legacy of Project Sabbath

Originally dubbed "Project Sabbath," this abandoned title was in development at Warner Bros. Games Montreal (creators of Batman: Arkham Origins) following Arkham Knight's 2015 release. The ambitious project would have featured dual protagonists - an older Bruce Wayne alongside his son Damian assuming the mantle of Batman.

The game ultimately never materialized, with WB Montreal instead shifting focus to create 2022's Gotham Knights - a controversial decision that eliminated Batman from the equation entirely.

PlayWhile Sabbath was meant to be Warner Bros.' next major Batman installment, Rocksteady pursued different directions before their eventual (and unfortunate) pivot to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Artistic Revelations

New concept images from a former WB Games Montreal artist showcase detailed character designs including:

  • A younger Damian Wayne in the Batsuit
  • A grizzled, bearded Bruce Wayne
  • Fresh interpretations of classic villains like Killer Croc and Huntress

The project's exact place in Arkhamverse continuity remains unclear. Some artistic choices - particularly Killer Croc's radically different appearance - suggest potential narrative departures from Rocksteady's established universe.

A History of Leaks

This isn't the first glimpse of Project Sabbath to emerge. Back in 2021, another developer shared images of Damian's sleek Batsuit featuring a prominent red Bat emblem, along with armored versions of an older (albeit masked) Bruce Wayne.

What Could Have Been

Following Gotham Knights' lukewarm reception and their involvement with Suicide Squad's troubled development, WB Games Montreal underwent significant downsizing in late 2024. Meanwhile, Rocksteady appears to be returning to single-player Batman experiences.

As the gaming community rediscovers these lost concepts, one question lingers: could Bruce and Damian Wayne finally get the game they deserve in Rocksteady's next project?
