GTA 6 Postponed to 2026: Must-Play Games for 2025
The news we all expected has arrived: GTA 6 is delayed. Initially set for a 2025 launch, the highly awaited title is now slated for May 26, 2026.
Yet, 2025 promises to be far from lackluster for gamers. This year has already delivered standout titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Blue Prince, and Split Fiction, with many more on the horizon. From Ghost of Yotei for samurai enthusiasts to Borderlands 4 for co-op thrills, and even a new Nintendo console with its own lineup, there’s plenty to dive into.
Here’s a look at the exciting games awaiting you in 2025, minus Grand Theft Auto 6.
What’s Coming?

With GTA 6 originally planned for later this year, you likely hadn’t cleared your gaming schedule for the next few months. But if you did, major releases are imminent. Doom: The Dark Ages hits Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC on May 15, offering a bold, gothic twist on the classic shooter. Soon after, Souls fans can rejoice as Elden Ring Nightreign arrives on May 30 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. This co-op roguelike ventures into new territory for FromSoft, promising a faster-paced take on their signature style, potentially dominating your multiplayer sessions.
Jump to June, and Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach lands on June 26, exclusively for PS5. Its trailers tease a wild, boundary-pushing experience, far beyond its delivery-focused predecessor. Meanwhile, Dune: Awakening arrives on PC on June 10, where surviving sandworms and dehydration will test your skills.
Switch 2 Unveiled

With GTA 6 delayed, the spotlight shifts to the Nintendo Switch 2, launching June 5 alongside its flagship title, Mario Kart World. Also dropping that day are enhanced Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, boasting improved visuals and performance. The Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, a mini-game tutorial, joins a robust third-party lineup, including Hogwarts Legacy, Spit Fiction, Street Fighter 6, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, Cyberpunk 2077, and Fortnite.
June is just the beginning. On July 17, Donkey Kong Bananza brings vibrant 3D platforming to the Switch 2. Later, anticipate Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. Plus, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally set to arrive across platforms, including Switch 2, this year.
Heavy Hitters

The year’s end always brings blockbuster releases, and 2025 is no exception. Expect a new Call of Duty and EA Sports FC 26 to dominate the holiday season, though details are pending.
September kicks off with two major shooters: Borderlands 4 on the 12th, delivering its signature chaotic fun with enhanced loot, and Marathon on the 23rd, an intriguing extraction shooter from Destiny’s creators.
On October 2, PlayStation’s Ghost of Yotei arrives, weaving a gripping tale of vengeance against masked samurai, perfect for those craving more after Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Other titles to watch include The Outer Worlds 2 and Crimson Desert, both expected to launch late in 2025, though exact dates remain unconfirmed.
