GTA 6 Mapping Project Surges with Trailer 2: 'Information Overload'

by Michael May 29,2025

The highly anticipated GTA 6 mapping project has gained significant momentum following the release of Trailer 2, as one of its key members shared with IGN, "It really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The GTA 6 Mapping Discord server, home to 370 active members (soon to surpass 400), is abuzz as enthusiasts dive into the new details provided by the trailer.

"It’s an information overload—it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza, who manages the Discord server, told IGN. "We have so much new content to work on, and we’re just getting started."

PlayThe GTA 6 Mapping Discord originated after the massive September 2022 leaks (which some speculate Rockstar subtly referenced at the beginning of Trailer 2). Its mission is to create the most accurate GTA 6 map possible, a task previously reliant on leaks and Trailer 1, released in December 2023.

The latest iteration of the GTA 6 map, launched by project leader DuPz0r at the end of March, is already outdated due to the wealth of new information unveiled in Trailer 2. This has spurred a more precise and detailed mapping effort.

Trailer 2 not only confirmed plot details and introduced new characters but also released 70 exclusive GTA 6 screenshots. Rockstar also revealed new information and images of the explorable locations within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's rendition of Florida. Confirmed locations include Vice City, GTA 6's take on Miami, the tropical archipelago Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a prominent national landmark along the state’s northern border.

Volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer frame by frame, pinpointing exact locations, and matching fictional spaces to their real-world counterparts to finalize GTA 6's map. Once completed, DuPz0r will release an updated map, giving fans their closest glimpse yet of what to expect when GTA 6 launches in May 2026.

If Rockstar releases additional assets or gameplay footage before the game's release, the team will revisit their work. Only after the game's official launch will they know how closely their efforts align with the final product.

Despite the excitement, the project faces the looming threat of Take-Two shutting it down. In March, the modder behind a playable GTA 6 map recreation in GTA 5 halted work after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two. The recreation was based on the GTA 6 mapping project.

Last year, when asked about potential legal action, Garza expressed "some mild concern." He noted that the project has operated without direct interference for some time, suggesting that Take-Two may recognize its promotional value. However, he remains cautious, acknowledging the possibility of future communication.

While fans eagerly await updates, more insights into GTA 6 continue to surface, including all the discoveries made so far and the growing list of fan theories inspired by Trailer 2.
