GTA 6 Set for Fall 2025 Release, CEO Confirms
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has reaffirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is still slated for a fall 2025 release. This confirmation came during the company's third-quarter financial results report for the period ending December 31, 2024, where GTA 6 was listed for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. This means that, for now, the game remains on track for its previously announced release window without any delays.
In an interview with IGN before the financial report was released, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed confidence in the fall 2025 release, despite acknowledging the inherent risks in game development. "Look, there's always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things," Zelnick said. "So we feel really good about it [fall 2025]."
When pressed for details on the development progress of GTA 6, Zelnick remained cautious. "Look, I think the game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally," he noted. "We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. I'm fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we're all running scared and looking over our shoulders and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited."
The release date of GTA 6 continues to be a major topic of interest across the entertainment industry, with competitors like EA closely monitoring its announcement. EA CEO Andrew Wilson recently mentioned that they might delay the next Battlefield game depending on the release timing of rivals, hinting at GTA 6's significant impact.

While the release window for GTA 6 remains firm, fans are still eagerly awaiting Trailer 2, which has not yet been released. Over a year has passed since the first trailer dropped, fueling intense speculation among the community. While you wait, IGN offers more insights into GTA 6, including comments from an ex-Rockstar developer suggesting that the studio might not finalize the release date until May 2025, Zelnick's elusive remarks about a potential PC release, and expert opinions on whether the PS5 Pro will be able to run GTA 6 at 60 frames per second.
Take-Two also highlighted the continued success of their existing titles. Grand Theft Auto 5 has now sold an astonishing 210 million units worldwide, with GTA Online experiencing a strong quarter, boosted by the Agents of Sabotage update. GTA+ memberships saw a 10% increase year-over-year. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 has surpassed 70 million copies sold, with Take-Two reporting record concurrent player numbers on Steam.
Take-Two's lineup for 2025 is packed, with titles like the newly released Civilization 7 from Firaxis, PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K25 in March, Mafia: The Old Country in the summer, GTA 6 in the fall, and Borderlands 4 from Gearbox before the year ends. "We are exceedingly optimistic about the commercial potential of our titles and believe that they will have a transformative effect on our business – and our industry – over the long term," Take-Two stated, expressing high confidence in achieving record levels of Net Bookings in fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
