GTA 6 Trailer 2: PS5 and Xbox Release Dates Confirmed, PC Absent

by Brooklyn May 20,2025

With the unveiling of the Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 and a significant update to its official website, anticipation is high for the game's launch platforms, particularly with the new release date set for May 26, 2026. The trailer's conclusion proudly displays the release date alongside logos for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, solidifying these consoles as the initial platforms for GTA 6. Notably, Trailer 2 was captured on a PS5, specifically mentioned as such, hinting at the console's pivotal role in the game's launch.

This raises questions about the game's availability on other platforms, especially PC and the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. The absence of any PC mention in the trailer and website update might suggest a delay in its PC release, following Rockstar's traditional approach of prioritizing console launches. This strategy, while consistent with Rockstar's past releases, feels somewhat outdated given the current importance of PC gaming to a title's overall success. Is this a missed opportunity for GTA 6?

In a February interview with IGN, Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick hinted at an eventual PC release for GTA 6, noting that while some titles launch simultaneously across all platforms, Rockstar historically rolls out its games on different platforms over time. He emphasized the growing significance of the PC market, which can account for up to 40% of a game's sales, or even more in some cases.

Rockstar's relationship with the PC gaming community, especially the modding scene, has been complex, and fans had hoped that GTA 6 might mark a shift in this approach. However, the timeline for the PC version remains uncertain, with speculation ranging from a release in Fall 2027 to as late as May 2027.

A former Rockstar developer in December 2023 attempted to shed light on why GTA 6 would follow a staggered release pattern, urging PC gamers to be patient and trust the studio's plans.

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, its absence from the trailer is less surprising. While the capabilities of the Switch 2 remain under wraps, its confirmed support for demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077 had fueled some hope for GTA 6's inclusion. However, given that GTA 6 is slated for the less powerful Xbox Series S, a Switch 2 release seems less likely at this stage.

Zelnick also commented on the evolving nature of the gaming market, noting the increasing importance of PC and the anticipation of a new console generation. This evolving landscape suggests that Rockstar might need to adapt its release strategy to maximize GTA 6's impact across all platforms.
