Should You Hand Over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
In Avowed, one of the earliest and most impactful decisions you face is whether to give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis. This choice leads to dramatically different outcomes, ranging from a bad ending to a somewhat favorable one. This guide delves into what happens depending on your decision regarding the Splinter of Eothas.
What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
Refusing to hand over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis triggers a confrontation. The game positions Sargamis as an optional boss, complete with a distinctive name and a substantial health bar, making him a formidable opponent early in the game.
During the battle, Sargamis calls upon two spirit creatures to assist him, though these tend to focus on Kai rather than you. He utilizes swift thrusting attacks with his sword, allowing him to close distances quickly. However, he is vulnerable to ice-based attacks, which can be used to your advantage to slow him down.
Upon defeating Sargamis, you are rewarded with the Last Light of Day mace. This unique weapon not only restores three percent of your health upon defeating an enemy but also adds a ten percent bonus to your fire damage attacks.
What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
After agreeing to give the Splinter to Sargamis, you have several subsequent choices. You can change your mind and provoke an attack, persuade Sargamis to sacrifice himself to the statue (which results in his death and you obtaining the Last Light of Day), or offer yourself to the statue.
Choosing to stand in the circle as directed by Sargamis leads to your character's death, but you'll earn the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading the game will bring you back to the moment before entering the circle. Alternatively, if you decide to leave the circle when instructed to stand still, Sargamis will attack you in rage.
How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed
The optimal way to handle the situation is by convincing Sargamis that his plan is doomed to fail. This requires an Intellect stat of at least 4. If necessary, consult our Avowed respec guide to adjust your attributes accordingly. Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking with Sargamis, activate the machine, and then discuss the failed attempt with him. Convince him of the futility of his plan, and he will abandon it.
The Court Augur and Arcane Scholar backgrounds are key to initiating this path, though other backgrounds may offer similar options. Guide Sargamis toward understanding that Eothas is gone, but avoid the intellect option regarding live soul transfer.
Once Sargamis departs, you can choose to let the voice use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, locate Sargamis in his quarters for a conversation that will conclude this segment of the Dawntreader quest, rewarding you with more experience than the alternatives.
This comprehensive guide should help you navigate the decision of whether to give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed. For newcomers to Obsidian's latest RPG, our Avowed beginner's guide offers valuable tips to enhance your gaming experience.
