Harry Potter: Magic Awakened Ends Service Amidst Casting Chaos

NetEase's collectible card game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, is shutting down in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania on October 29th, 2024. While the game continues in Asia and some MENA regions, its Western servers are closing.

Initially released in China in September 2021 and globally on June 27th, 2022, the game enjoyed a strong initial launch in China but struggled to maintain momentum internationally. Despite its promising Clash Royale-inspired gameplay and Hogwarts atmosphere, player numbers dwindled.

The game's decline is attributed to several factors, notably a controversial rework of the rewards system. This update shifted the game's balance, favoring spending players over skilled, free-to-play users. Numerous nerfs and slower progression for non-spending players contributed to negative player feedback and ultimately led to the game's closure in the affected regions. The game was removed from the Google Play Store in these regions on August 26th.

Players in unaffected regions can still experience the game's features, including dorm life, classes, secret discoveries, and wizard duels.
