Honey Harvest: Stardew Valley Cultivating Guide
Stardew Valley: A Comprehensive Guide to Honey Production
This guide delves into the often-overlooked world of honey production in Stardew Valley, demonstrating how to cultivate this valuable artisan good for profit and gifting. Honey is surprisingly easy to produce and can become a significant income source. This guide covers everything from building bee houses to maximizing honey quality and utilization, updated for version 1.6.
Bee House Construction
Honey production begins with the Bee House. This crafting recipe unlocks at Farming Level 3, requiring:
- 40 Wood
- 8 Coal
- 1 Iron Bar
- 1 Maple Syrup
Alternatively, a Bee House can be obtained by completing the Fall Crops Bundle in the Community Center or as a prize from the Mayor's Prize Counter.
Place your Bee House outdoors—on your farm, in the forest, or at the quarry. Production occurs every 3-4 days in all seasons except winter. On Ginger Island, production is year-round. The Bee House can be moved using an axe or pickaxe; any ready honey will drop. Note that Bee Houses in the Greenhouse do not produce honey.
Flower Power: Honey Types and Value
The type of honey produced depends on the flowers within five tiles of the Bee House. Without nearby flowers, Wild Honey (100g, 140g with Artisan profession) is produced. Planting flowers near the Bee House increases honey value and changes its type. This includes flowers in Garden Pots.
The Artisan profession (Farming Level 10) increases the value of all artisan goods by 40%. Here's a price breakdown:
Honey Type | Base Sell Price | Artisan Sell Price |
---|---|---|
Tulip Honey | 160g | 224g |
Blue Jazz Honey | 200g | 280g |
Sunflower Honey | 260g | 364g |
Summer Spangle Honey | 280g | 392g |
Poppy Honey | 380g | 532g |
Fairy Rose Honey | 680g | 952g |
Remember: Harvest honey before harvesting the surrounding flowers to maintain the honey type. Flowers from Wild Seeds produce only Wild Honey.
Honey Applications
While higher-value honeys are best sold directly, Wild Honey and less valuable varieties have other uses:
Mead Production: Place honey in a Keg to produce Mead. Mead quality (and thus value) increases with aging in a Cask:
- Normal: 200g (280g with Artisan)
- Silver: 250g (350g)
- Gold: 300g (420g)
- Iridium: 400g (560g)
Note: Honey type doesn't affect Mead's value, making Wild Honey the most profitable option.
Crafting: Honey is used to craft a Warp Totem: Farm (Farming Level 8) with Hardwood and Fiber.
Bundles: Honey completes the Artisan Bundle in the Community Center and appears in some Fish Pond quests.
Gifting: Honey is a well-liked gift for most villagers (except Maru and Sebastian), making Wild Honey an excellent choice for friendship building. Mead is also a popular gift (avoid giving it to Penny, Sebastian, or children).
