In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, like its predecessors, you'll battle across ancient China alongside various warlords before ultimately pledging allegiance to one. Here's how faction selection works:

The game unfolds across chapters. The first two chapters feature the Wanderer (your character) assisting Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei without committing to a specific faction. You'll participate in key events like the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate.

Chapter 3 presents the crucial decision: choosing a faction. Before this point, the game provides battles to familiarize you with each warlord's style and goals.

To ally with a faction, you must complete a specific number of missions: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Completing these unlocks a mission forcing you to choose a side. Only factions with completed missions are selectable. You can, however, complete all faction missions before making your final choice.

Your decision is permanent. The unchosen faction becomes inaccessible for the remainder of the game, preventing further sidequests and bond increases with their officers. This can impact gameplay difficulty; for instance, aligning with Liu Bei initially limits early access to commanding officers and skill point acquisition through sidequests.

Each faction offers unique missions. To experience all content, create a separate save file before choosing a kingdom, allowing you to replay with different allegiances.
