Jon Bernthal's Punisher Will Return After Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 in a Guardians of the Galaxy-Style Marvel Special

Jon Bernthal's Punisher is making a triumphant return to the Marvel universe! Following the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, he'll star in a standalone Marvel special, reminiscent of a Guardians of the Galaxy style adventure. Bernthal is even co-writing the special with We Own This City director Reinaldo Marcus Green. Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum describes it as "a shotgun blast of a story," promising both intense action and the emotional depth fans expect from Frank Castle.

This Punisher one-shot arrives as Marvel Television prepares to bring back the Defenders to Disney+. This street-level superhero team, featuring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, previously appeared on Netflix before transitioning to Disney+ and becoming officially part of the MCU canon.

Winderbaum previously hinted at the creative challenges and opportunities of working within the MCU framework, acknowledging the limitations compared to the boundless possibilities of comic books. However, he expressed immense excitement about the creative potential.

Daredevil: Born Again, premiering March 4th, picks up where the Netflix series left off. It features returning characters like the Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), facing off against a new threat: the artistically inclined serial killer, Muse.
