Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Opening Weekend Success

250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players And Counting

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has soared past 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra shared via Twitter (X) that the game hit a peak of 256,206 players. Since its launch, KCD2 has consistently broken its own records for concurrent players each day from February 4 to February 9.

  • February 4 - 159,351 concurrent Steam players
  • February 5 - 176,285 concurrent Steam players
  • February 6 - 185,582 concurrent Steam players
  • February 7 - 190,194 concurrent Steam players
  • February 8 - 233,586 concurrent Steam players
  • February 9 - 256,206 concurrent Steam players

According to various sources, KCD2 has reportedly sold around 890,000 copies on Steam alone. It currently ranks as the 2nd top-selling game on Steam, trailing only behind Counter-Strike 2, and is the 5th most-played game, following CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana.

The game sold 1 million copies on launch day and is on track to reach 2 million copies sold based on current Steam sales estimates.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Attention To Detail

The success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing player immersion and enjoyment. Known for its commitment to realism, the series continues to push boundaries with features like food spoilage, the need to clean clothes and armor, and the necessity to sharpen swords. KCD2 introduces even more elements to make players feel truly immersed in a 15th-century medieval world.

Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a new stealth mechanic where players must manage their hygiene. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner explained. "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."

The game also introduces "handgonnes," a historically accurate representation of early firearms. Bittner discussed with PC Gamer how these weapons were challenging to use, had long reload times, were inaccurate, and posed safety risks. "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it," he admitted.

KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their focus on authenticity over hyperaccuracy. "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible," he stated.

Post-Launch Roadmap

Warhorse Studios has outlined a comprehensive post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content throughout 2025.

Free updates include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing, slated for release in Spring 2025. Paid DLCs will roll out starting in Summer with "Brushes with Death," followed by "Legacy of the Forge" in Autumn, and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" in Winter.

Given its stunning opening weekend performance, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial success with these updates and future DLCs, potentially setting new records along the way.
