Larian Unveils New Subclasses in Baldur's Gate 3

Larian Studios has surprised fans by announcing a significant update for Baldur's Gate 3, slated for release in 2025, defying expectations that Patch 7 would be the final major update. This substantial update includes highly anticipated features like crossplay support and a photo mode, but the real highlight is the introduction of twelve brand-new subclasses, each promising unique and exciting gameplay mechanics.

While details on four subclasses have already been revealed, let's explore the remaining eight:

  • Oath of the Crown Paladin: This paladin subclass champions justice and societal well-being. Their unique ability, Divine Devotion, allows them to absorb incoming damage meant for allies, restoring their health in the process.

  • Arcane Archer: Blending martial skill with arcane magic, the Arcane Archer fires enchanted arrows with devastating effects. These arrows can blind, weaken, or even banish enemies to the Feywild until their next turn. Remarkably, missed shots can be redirected mid-flight to hit another enemy.

  • Drunken Master Monk: This unorthodox monk incorporates alcohol into their combat style. A signature move intoxicates opponents, leaving them disoriented while simultaneously enhancing the monk's own abilities. Using Instant Sobriety on an intoxicated foe unleashes a powerful attack dealing both physical and mental damage.

  • Swarmkeeper Ranger: This ranger commands the power of nature by forming alliances with various swarms of creatures. These swarms provide protection and even assist with teleportation. In combat, the Swarmkeeper can deploy three distinct swarm types: electric jellyfish clusters, blinding moth clouds, and stinging bee legions that can knock back enemies who fail a strength check by 4.5 meters.
