The Krusty Burger set perfectly captures the chaotic charm of Springfield's most questionable fast-food joint. This food safety nightmare includes menu favorites like the Krusty Burger, Ribwich, Clogger, and Principal Skinner's infamous Steamed Hams. The set features seven detailed minifigures, including Krusty the Clown, Sideshow Bob, Homer Simpson, and Officer Lou. Priced at $209.99, it launches June 4, but LEGO Insiders can secure Early Access starting June 1. Free membership signup available.

To understand the creative process behind this long-awaited Simpsons revival, we spoke with lead designer Ann Healy. The senior model designer, with six years at LEGO, shares insights about bringing Springfield's iconic fast food joint to brick form.

Which previous LEGO sets have you designed during your tenure?

Healy: I spent three years developing LEGO Friends sets before transitioning to more mature themes. One career highlight was designing The Sanderson Sisters' Cottage from Hocus Pocus, which required years of development before release. Recently with LEGO Icons, I created the McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna racing set and the seasonal Poinsettia Botanicals collection.

LEGO designer working on Krusty Burger prototype

What prompted LEGO to revisit The Simpsons after a decade-long hiatus?

Healy: Market research revealed enduring global affection for The Simpsons among LEGO fans. Ironically, the original Simpsons House and Kwik-E-Mart sets were among my final purchases before joining LEGO. During my first week, I discovered an early Krusty Burger prototype gathering dust - a passion project by colleagues hoping for official production.

Five years later, that same prototype got pulled down for development. As a lifelong Simpsons enthusiast, I immediately volunteered. The Krusty Burger represents both franchise continuity and opportunity for fresh minifigure designs we've never produced before.

Walk us through the design iteration process.

Healy: Starting with the old prototype, I refined layouts and instruction flows digitally before physical testing. The model underwent at least 20 complete rebuilds during development. We conducted rigorous reviews with creative leads, building experience teams, and IP partners - evaluating everything from structural integrity to play experience.

The final quality check came when production samples arrived from the factory. That last build was incredibly satisfying - watching years of work become reality.

LEGO Krusty Burger interior details

How did you research Krusty Burger's layout, given its inconsistent show appearances?

Healy: Disney provided invaluable reference materials. I immersed myself in Simpsons episodes, particularly "Coming to Homerica" (Season 20) featuring the Mother Nature Burger that inspired several set elements. Other key references included:

  • "I'm Spelling as Fast as I Can" (Season 14) - Ribwich specialty burger
  • "Homie the Clown" (Season 6) - Homer's Krusty Burger performance
  • "Day of the Jackanapes" (Season 12) - Bart and Sideshow Bob's visit
  • Multiple episodes showcasing drive-thru, grease sales, and IRS Burger takeover

Tell us about hidden details fans might miss.

Healy: My favorite Easter egg references the Season 5 episode where Krusty builds an oil rig burger joint. The kitchen display screen shows an order for 700 burgers - a nod to that absurd storyline.

Detail of Krusty Burger sign construction

What proved most technically challenging?

Healy: The massive Krusty face sign required particular attention to proportions and stability. We collaborated closely with IP partners, even receiving hand-drawn sketches to perfect Krusty's likeness in bricks. A breakthrough came when our Element Lead suggested using a new axle sleeve component to support the heavy sign's weight.

Does this signal more Simpsons LEGO sets coming?

Healy: While I can't confirm future plans, as both a designer and superfan, I'm hopeful this set's reception will warrant further Springfield adventures in brick form!

LEGO The Simpsons: Krusty Burger (Set #10352) includes 1,635 pieces at $209.99. General sales begin June 4, with LEGO Insiders Early Access starting June 1. Watch for our hands-on build review coming later this month!
