Mark Ruffalo's Hulk Set to Return to the MCU for Spider-Man: Brand New Day

by Lucy Aug 12,2026

Big news is sweeping through the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with reports indicating Mark Ruffalo’s The Hulk is poised to make a return next year in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

According to an unnamed source cited by The Hollywood Reporter, both Sony and Marvel have opted not to comment officially on Ruffalo reprising his role as Bruce Banner for the highly anticipated 2026 superhero sequel.

Meanwhile, Michael Mando is also expected to return as supervillain Mac Gargan, better known as the Scorpion, in Brand New Day. The character was last seen on screen in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, which marked Tom Holland's debut as the web-slinger.

Ruffalo previously portrayed The Hulk in the 2022 Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. A direct sequel to that show now seems unlikely, and while Ruffalo was not among the cast members confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel has hinted that further announcements are forthcoming. This leaves open the possibility that The Hulk could appear in the film in some capacity.

As production gears up to begin filming, details about Spider-Man: Brand New Day continue to emerge. On August 1, Sony unveiled the movie’s debut teaser, which featured an eight-second close-up of Spider-Man’s new suit.

The teaser release coincides with the Hulk casting news and new set leaks. These images include an armored truck that appears to confirm the presence of a well-known Spider-Man villain in Brand New Day.
