Marvel Rivals Ban Trump Mod: Report

Summary

  • A Donald Trump mod for Marvel Rivals was banned due to sociopolitical issues, violating Nexus Mods' rules.
  • NetEase Games, the developer of Marvel Rivals, has not yet responded to issues concerning character mods.

A controversial Donald Trump mod for Marvel Rivals has been banned, reflecting the game's growing popularity since its launch nearly a month ago. Marvel Rivals has attracted millions of players worldwide, who are honing their skills with various Marvel heroes to climb the ranks.

As a hero shooter, Marvel Rivals offers a thrilling experience where players can develop strategic gameplay and leverage unique character interactions to secure victories. Beyond the standard gameplay, many players have enhanced their experience with mods, ranging from skins inspired by Marvel Comics and movies to integrating Fortnite models like Captain America and Spider-Man over the default characters.

Recently, a Nexus Mods user uploaded a Donald Trump mod for Captain America, a popular Vanguard in Marvel Rivals. This mod gained attention on social media, with some users even seeking out a Joe Biden mod to create themed matches. However, Nexus Mods has since banned and removed the Trump mod, as attempts to access it now lead to an error page indicating it is no longer available on the site. Similarly, the Biden mod is also unsearchable on the platform.

Why Was the Donald Trump Marvel Rivals Mod Removed?

In 2020, Nexus Mods announced a policy to ban mods related to sociopolitical issues in the United States, urging users to report any violations. This decision coincided with the highly contested election between then-President Trump and challenger Joe Biden, who ultimately won.

On social media, many Marvel Rivals fans were unsurprised by the ban, citing the inappropriateness of using Captain America's model for Trump. However, a minority expressed dissatisfaction with Nexus Mods' decision to ban political imagery altogether. While this isn't the first instance of Trump being featured in video game mods, many such mods have been removed from Nexus Mods. Nevertheless, mods featuring Trump are still available for games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, and XCOM 2.

Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals' developer, NetEase Games, has yet to address the issue of character mods, particularly those involving controversial or political figures. As a newly released game, NetEase has been focused on resolving gameplay bugs and overturning wrongful bans on players.
