Marvel Rivals to Launch New Heroes Monthly from Season 3
Marvel Rivals developers have unveiled an exciting roadmap for the game, promising to keep the experience fresh and engaging with new heroes and shorter seasons. Learn more about their post-Season 2 plans, including new characters and skins.
Marvel Rivals Upcoming Changes
New Heroes Every Month
In their ongoing efforts to keep the game "as fresh as its launch," NetEase has announced a shift in their release schedule. Starting from Season 3, Marvel Rivals will introduce new heroes every month, moving away from the previous model of releasing two heroes per season. This exciting news was shared by Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong during the Marvel Rivals’ Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4, alongside other significant adjustments to the game's seasons.
The developers have decided to shorten each season from three months to two, allowing for a more frequent introduction of new content. Guangguang stated, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month."
Guangguang also acknowledged the pressure from social media discussions to maintain the game's excitement since its launch in December. The team is exploring the addition of new game modes to further enhance the experience, which could be implemented in the future. This new approach could potentially see up to 12 new heroes added to the game annually.
Balancing these new heroes presents a significant challenge, but Guangguang assured fans in a March 14 interview with PC Gamer that the team is equipped to handle it. He highlighted the importance of key metric data across all game modes, including pick rates, win rates, stats, and abilities, which forms the basis for their balancing efforts.
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
The Dev Vision also introduced Season 2, dubbed the Hellfire Gala, where Marvel Heroes are invited by the upcoming hero Emma Frost to explore the Mutant haven of the Living Island Krakoa. Emma Frost, an X-Men villain with telepathic abilities and the power to transform objects into diamonds, will serve as a Vanguard in the game.
The Hellfire Gala promises a lavish celebration on the island, with the trailer showcasing new skins for characters like Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, and Black Panther, all dressed in elegant formal attire. This event draws inspiration from Marvel’s Hellfire Club, an elite social club that influences global events.
Following Emma Frost’s debut, Season 2.5 will introduce Ultron, another iconic Marvel villain. The Hellfire Gala trailer hints at a dramatic interruption by Ultron robots, setting the stage for the Age of Ultron. Details about Ultron's role in the game are yet to be revealed.
Thor’s Lord of Asgard and Hawkeye’s Ronin Skins Available Now!
Marvel Rivals announced on Twitter (X) on April 4 the availability of new skins for Thor and Hawkeye. Thor’s Lord of Asgard skin reflects his revival by Odin in the comics, while Hawkeye’s Ronin skin captures his time as a vigilante samurai.
The Thor Rune King bundle includes the Rune King costume, spray, nameplate, The Omniscient MVP, and Well of Mimir emote. Meanwhile, the Hawkeye Ronin bundle offers the Ronin skin, spray, nameplate, Deadly Rain MVP, and Hone to Perfection emote.
These updates underscore NetEase’s commitment to supporting Marvel Rivals for 10 years and beyond. The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest on Marvel Rivals by checking out our articles below!
