Marvel, Robert Downey Jr. Hint at More Avengers: Doomsday Cast Reveals
Following the exciting announcement of 26 new cast members for the eagerly awaited Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. have hinted that there's more to come. Marvel unveiled the cast list during an extensive livestream, signaling the start of production and confirming that Robert Downey Jr. will be joined by a host of talented actors in this superhero epic.
Among the surprises, fans were thrilled to learn that Channing Tatum will reprise his iconic role as Gambit from the X-Men series. You can explore the full Avengers: Doomsday cast list here.
However, some notable MCU stars were absent from the list. Fans were quick to notice the absence of Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Chris Evans, who was rumored to appear in either Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, though he later refuted these claims. Other missing heroes include Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Rhodey, as well as key X-Men characters like Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, and Jean Grey.
Disappointment among fans was palpable, but hope remains. In an Instagram post after the reveal, Robert Downey Jr., who transitions from Iron Man to Doctor Doom, hinted at more announcements. He remarked, "That’s what u call a deep bench of talent. Actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it.. right?"

Marvel further teased in the comments that "there's always room for more." The Russo Brothers, directing the film, added, "It’s time…" indicating that the cast announcements are far from over. Who could be the next to join the fray? Share your predictions in the comments.
Earlier this month, the Russo Brothers shared their vision for Avengers 5 and 6, describing them as a "new beginning" that will set the stage for Phase 7 of the MCU. Joe Russo emphasized the importance of villains who believe they are the heroes of their own narratives, stating, "The only thing I’ll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they’re the heroes of their own stories. That’s when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well shaped character for the audience. That’s where a lot of our focus is going."
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Secret Wars on May 2027. Leading up to these films, fans can look forward to Thunderbolts* in May 2025, the TV series Ironheart in June, and the launch of Phase 6 with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
In a recent update, Marvel Studios added three untitled projects to its 2028 schedule, with release dates set for February 18, May 5, and November 10. Speculation is rife that one of these could be the much-anticipated X-Men film.
