Marvel SNAP: The Best Moonstone Deck

by Henry Feb 27,2025

Quick Links

Moonstone, Marvel Snap's newest Ongoing card, replicates the Ongoing effects of your 1-, 2-, and 3-Cost cards in her lane – a potent ability akin to an enhanced Mystique. However, building a successful deck around this powerful but vulnerable card (often dubbed "the Glass Cannon") presents a significant challenge.

After extensive testing, two optimal Moonstone deck archetypes emerged: Patriot and Tribunal strategies. This guide details building and optimizing both. A final assessment helps you decide if Moonstone deserves a place in your collection.

Moonstone (4–6)

Ongoing: Copies the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-Cost cards in this lane.

Series: Five (Ultra Rare)

Season: Dark Avengers

Release: January 15, 2025

The Best Deck for Moonstone

Moonstone excels as a support card, not a primary win condition. A robust strategy involves integrating her into a Patriot-Ultron deck. Focus on leveraging one or two key Ongoing effects rather than over-relying on her ability.

A strong Moonstone, Patriot, and Ultron deck also includes: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.

Card Cost Power Moonstone 4 6 Patriot 3 1 Ultron 6 8 Brood 3 2 Ant-Man 1 1 Mystique 3 0 Iron Man 5 0 Mister Sinister 2 2 Dazzler 2 2 Squirrel Girl 1 2 Mockingbird 6 9 Blue Marvel 5 3

Moonstone Deck Synergies

  • Prepare for buffs by playing Brood, Sinister, or Squirrel Girl.
  • Utilize one lane for Patriot, Mystique, and Moonstone (ideally in that order).
  • Deploy Ultron in the final round to maximize location control and buff benefits.
  • Iron Man, Blue Marvel, and Mockingbird provide fallback options to compensate for power deficits.

An Alternative Deck for Moonstone

Testing reveals Moonstone's exciting potential when paired with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. Prioritizing excitement over consistency, use Moonstone as a win condition with: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.

Card Cost Power Moonstone 4 6 Onslaught 6 7 The Living Tribunal 6 9 Mystique 3 0 Ravonna Renslayer 2 2 Iron Man 5 0 Captain America 3 3 Howard the Duck 1 2 Magik 3 2 Psylocke 2 2 Sera 5 4 Iron Lad 4 6

Ideal Play:

  1. Use Psylocke for early Moonstone placement.
  2. Play Onslaught, Mystique, and Iron Man in her lane.
  3. Distribute power across lanes with The Living Tribunal in the final round.

Psylocke and Sera provide cost reduction, Magik extends the game, and Captain America/Iron Lad offer backup. However, this strategy has a surprising weakness: Super Skrull.

How to Counter Moonstone

Super Skrull effectively counters Moonstone. Since her release, Super Skrull's inclusion in decks anticipating Moonstone has proven highly effective. Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo also neutralize Moonstone's abilities, highlighting her vulnerability.

Moonstone's key weakness: she absorbs abilities only in her lane. Without protection (e.g., Invisible Woman), Enchantress, Echo, or Rogue easily shut down that lane. Alternatively, a Super Skrull in another lane disrupts the strategy.

Is Moonstone Worth It?

Moonstone justifies Spotlight Keys for several reasons: 1) her ability's value will increase with future synergistic Ongoing cards; 2) she's in a Spotlight Cache with two other Series Five cards, mitigating risk; and 3) she offers a nostalgic, high-impact gameplay style. If you enjoy powerful combos, Moonstone is a worthwhile acquisition.
