Marvel Adapts Skywalker With Fan-Pleasing Twist

Marvel Completes Long-Awaited Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Comic Adaptation

Marvel Comics has finally concluded its adaptation of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, arriving more than six years after the film's theatrical release. Originally announced in 2020 before pandemic-related delays, this adaptation brings fresh perspectives to the Skywalker Saga finale with never-before-seen scenes and a major fan-requested alteration.

Expanding the Final Chapter

The comic doesn't simply retell the film's story - it enhances it with additional material. Issue #5 alone contains several significant additions: we witness Lando's galaxy-wide transmission rallying allies against the Sith Eternal, and observe Rey and Ben Solo's strengthening Force connection through intimate psychic exchanges.

The most impactful change occurs during Rey's climactic confrontation with Emperor Palpatine. Unlike the film's voice-only Jedi council moment, the comic visually manifests these legendary Force users as glowing apparitions standing alongside Rey.

This visually striking sequence addresses a common fan complaint about the film's execution. The adaptation takes creative liberties elsewhere too - in the victory celebration scene, we see spectral appearances from Luke and Leia engaging in playful banter, opportunities the live-action film couldn't pursue following Carrie Fisher's passing.

Unanswered Mysteries

While the ghostly cameos satisfy fans visually, they raise intriguing lore questions. The comic shows numerous prequel-era Jedi manifesting despite established rules requiring specialized training for Force ghost appearances. There's also inconsistency in how characters appear - why does Obi-Wan manifest as his younger self while Luke retains his aged appearance?

The most perplexing cameo belongs to Ahsoka Tano. Her presence as a potential Force ghost contradicts current Star Wars continuity, which leaves her fate after Rebels intentionally ambiguous. Is she truly deceased? Projecting from another location? The adaptation adds fuel to ongoing speculation about this fan-favorite character's ultimate destiny.

As Ahsoka's live-action journey continues with Rosario Dawson's upcoming appearances, fans will have to wait for definitive answers. Meanwhile, this adaptation offers a fascinating "what if" version of Episode IX's most debated moments. Do these changes improve the story? The debate continues among fans eager to explore every corner of the galaxy far, far away.
