Mass Effect 5 Graphics: Not Veilguard or Pixar Style
Mass Effect fans concerned about the direction of the franchise's next installment, especially in light of the stylistic changes seen in Veilguard, can breathe a sigh of relief. Mass Effect 5's project director has directly addressed these concerns.
Mass Effect's Mature Tone Lives On In Mass Effect 5
Mass Effect's Next Game Will Remain Photorealistic and Mature
The upcoming game in the Mass Effect series, tentatively referred to as "Mass Effect 5," will continue to embody the mature tone and photorealistic visuals that defined the original trilogy. The Mass Effect series, developed by EA and BioWare, has been celebrated for its compelling storytelling and realistic graphics that tackle intense themes, as highlighted by trilogy game director Casey Hudson.
As BioWare's latest Dragon Age title, Dragon Age: Veilguard, approaches its release on October 31, Mass Effect 5 project director and executive producer Michael Gamble took to Twitter (X) to clarify the direction of the next Mass Effect game. Fans have expressed apprehension about Veilguard's shift towards a more Disney or Pixar-like visual style, fearing a similar departure for Mass Effect.
In response to these concerns, Michael Gamble assured fans that Veilguard's stylistic choices would not influence Mass Effect 5. He stated, "Both are from the studio, but Mass Effect is Mass Effect. How you bring a Sci Fi RPG to life is different than other genres or IPs...and has to have different kinds of love." He further emphasized in a separate tweet that "Mass Effect will maintain the mature tone of the original Trilogy. This is all I'm gonna say for now."
Gamble also addressed the comparison of Veilguard to Pixar, expressing his disagreement with this perception. He confirmed that Mass Effect 5 would retain its photorealistic approach, stating, "Mass Effect will continue to be photorealistic and 'will be as long as I'm running it.'" While specific details about Mass Effect 5 remain under wraps, fans can rest assured that the game will stay true to its established visual and tonal identity.
N7 Day 2024 Could Bring New Mass Effect 5 Trailer or Announcement
With N7 Day, also known as Mass Effect Day, approaching on November 7, anticipation is building among fans for potential updates on Mass Effect 5. Historically, BioWare has used N7 Day to make significant announcements related to the franchise. In 2020, the studio unveiled the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, a remastered trilogy that thrilled the community.
Last year's N7 Day saw a series of cryptic posts that hinted at Mass Effect 5's storyline, possible character returns, and even the game's working title. These teasers included clips featuring a mysterious character in a full-face helmet and suit adorned with an N7 logo.
The culmination of these teasers was a 34-second clip, but aside from these hints, little has been revealed about Mass Effect 5. Fans are eagerly awaiting N7 Day 2024, hoping for a new teaser or a significant announcement that will shed more light on the next chapter in the Mass Effect saga.
