Dr. Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Deadrop

Gaming studio Midnight Society, co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its upcoming FPS game, Deadrop.

In an X post, the studio stated that it would be closing its doors after three years, impacting a team of over 55 developers. The announcement included a plea for job opportunities for its now-displaced employees.

Midnight Society was established by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling (Call of Duty) and Quinn Delhoy (Halo). Deadrop, their flagship free-to-play PvPvE extraction shooter, was slated for a 2024 release but ultimately failed to meet its target.

The studio parted ways with Beahm in 2024 following controversies involving inappropriate messages sent to a minor via Twitch's Whispers feature. Despite this separation, development on Deadrop continued until the recent shutdown.

Deadrop was set in a unique, retro-futuristic 80s-inspired universe, featuring characters in Daft Punk-esque helmets wielding both firearms and melee weapons.

Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of game studios facing challenges and downsizing within the current difficult climate for the industry, a trend affecting major companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs, among others.
