Minecraft, Simpsons Films Set for July 2027 Clash

by George Mar 26,2026

Warner Bros. has confirmed the highly anticipated sequel: Minecraft 2.

The film is slated for release on July 23, 2027, which puts it in direct competition with Disney's The Simpsons Movie 2 on the same day.

This sets the stage for a monumental box office clash. Given that the first A Minecraft Movie grossed a staggering $957,849,195 worldwide after its April debut, The Simpsons sequel faces a formidable challenge.

Warner Bros. has marked the July date for an "untitled Minecraft sequel," so the final name may differ. What is confirmed is that director Jared Hess is returning to helm and co-write the follow-up with Chris Galletta. Stars like Jack Black and Jason Momoa are also expected to reprise their roles.

"Plot details are being kept deep underground for now," Warner Bros. playfully stated.

Will A Minecraft Movie 2 recreate the viral, theater-wide excitement sparked by moments like the Chicken Jockey scene from the first film? Could Jack Black deliver another chart-topping movie anthem, following the success of "Steve's Lava Chicken" earlier this year?

It seems likely. While we await more news, you can read IGN's review of A Minecraft Movie and discover how the film's team used a private server during production.
