Monster Hunter Wilds: Unstoppable Launch Despite Bugs and MTX
Monster Hunter Wilds has captivated over 1 million concurrent players on Steam, despite receiving mixed reviews. This article delves into the game's performance on PC and the challenges it faces at launch.
Monster Hunter Wilds Received Mixed Reviews on Steam
Despite the mixed feedback on Steam, Monster Hunter Wilds has achieved an impressive milestone with over 1 million concurrent players. According to SteamDB, the game hit an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players. This number far exceeds the records set by its predecessors, with Monster Hunter World peaking at 334,684 players and Monster Hunter Rise at 231,360. However, with 57% of its 54,669 reviews being positive, the game currently holds a "Mixed" rating on Steam. Many negative reviews cite poor PC optimization and performance issues as major concerns.
Capcom Responds to PC Performance Issues
In response to the negative feedback on Monster Hunter Wilds' PC performance, Capcom has taken action to address these concerns. On February 28, 2025, the Monster Hunter Status account on X (formerly Twitter) shared solutions to help mitigate the issues players are facing.
Capcom's support website provides detailed answers to common player concerns, suggesting fixes like updating video/graphics drivers, ensuring the latest Windows updates are installed, and performing a clean installation of video drivers. If problems persist, Capcom recommends following the steps outlined in the Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread on the Steam community page for more in-depth guidance.
Game-breaking Bug Blocking Story Progress
A critical bug is currently hindering player progress in Monster Hunter Wilds. An essential NPC fails to appear during Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 "A World Turned Upside Down," blocking story advancement. Monster Hunter Status acknowledged this issue on X on March 2, 2025, and confirmed they are actively working on a fix.
Additional issues include the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features not unlocking despite meeting criteria, and problems with accessing the Smithy. Capcom has responded quickly, deploying hotfixes and updates across various platforms to address these concerns.
Character Editing Locked Behind Microtransactions
Monster Hunter Wilds introduces microtransactions for character customization, requiring players to purchase vouchers to alter their characters and Palicos. The Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack allows three character edits for $6.00, available across all digital storefronts. While players can change hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing freely, other changes require vouchers. A separate $10 voucher pack allows for three edits to both the character and Palico. However, Capcom is offering a single free voucher for character edits. These microtransactions were not part of the game's testing phase but were announced by Capcom prior to launch.
