Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Shut Down After Year of Operation
Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially going offline October 21st, 2024.
The reasons behind the closure remain undisclosed, although NetherRealm's recent shuttering of its mobile games division (responsible for Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a broader strategic shift.
The status of in-game purchases is currently unclear. While Warner Bros. and NetherRealm have not yet commented on refunds for purchased currency or items, they promise future updates. Players are advised to monitor the official X (formerly Twitter) account for announcements.
Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique departure from traditional Mortal Kombat gameplay. This action-adventure RPG blended intense combat with a cinematic narrative, reminiscent of free-to-play mobile MOBAs. Players joined Raiden and his team to thwart the Elder God Shinnok's power grab.
