Neil Druckmann: No Bet on The Last of Us Part 3

by Evelyn May 06,2025

If you're a fan of *The Last of Us* eagerly awaiting news about a potential Part 3 video game, prepare for some disappointing news. Neil Druckmann, the series creator, has significantly dampened hopes for a third installment in a recent interview with Variety. The conversation, which primarily focused on the upcoming *The Last of Us* TV series, took a turn when Druckmann was asked about the possibility of *The Last of Us Part 3*. His response was clear and disheartening:

“I was waiting for this question,” he said with a sigh. “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”

This statement leaves fans wondering whether to take Druckmann at his word. Currently, Naughty Dog is deeply invested in their new project, *Intergalactic*, which was unveiled at The Game Awards last December. Given that *Intergalactic* has no announced release window, it's likely years away from completion. With the studio's focus shifted to space-themed adventures, it seems unlikely they'll have the bandwidth to work on *The Last of Us Part 3* anytime soon. Druckmann might be playing it coy, or perhaps he's genuinely not ready to commit to another sequel. Only time will tell if his stance changes or if he's truly finished with the franchise.

For those still hungry for more *The Last of Us*, the television adaptation offers a glimmer of hope. The second season is set to premiere on April 13 on Max. While Druckmann expressed uncertainty about how many seasons it will take to cover the story of *Part 2*, an HBO executive hinted in February that four seasons might be the ideal length to fully explore the narrative. So, while the future of the video game series remains uncertain, fans can still look forward to more adventures in the *The Last of Us* universe through the TV series.
