Netflix Lands New Sesame Street After HBO Max

by Hunter Nov 06,2025

The journey to Sesame Street continues! The iconic children's series, entertaining young minds since 1969, has secured new streaming homes on Netflix and PBS following HBO and Max's decision not to renew their partnership after 2024.

Viewers worldwide can enjoy new episodes alongside the comprehensive show archive on Netflix, while PBS stations and PBS Kids platforms will maintain their same-day broadcasts. Notably, this agreement includes gaming rights – aligning with Netflix's push into interactive entertainment – allowing development for both Sesame Street games and its animated spinoff Sesame Street Mecha Builders.

A Historic Public-Private Alliance

Sesame Workshop announced this groundbreaking partnership on May 19 through their social channels, emphasizing the collaboration's educational mission: "This unique public-private partnership with Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting ensures Sesame Street continues nurturing children's intellectual, emotional, and social development globally."

We are excited to announce that all new Sesame Street episodes are coming to @netflix worldwide along with library episodes, and new episodes will also release the same day on @PBS Stations and @PBSKIDS platforms in the US, preserving a 50+ year relationship.

Evolving While Staying True

Season 56 introduces notable format changes, including a streamlined 11-minute narrative structure inspired by character-driven successes like Bluey. However, beloved segments remain untouched – Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck continue delighting young audiences.

Play

Sesame Street debuted in November 1969, joining PBS in the following decade. Since HBO and Max's $35 million investment began in 2015, the partnership has produced numerous seasons before concluding due to shifting priorities in children's programming. While new productions cease, HBO/Max retains streaming rights to existing episodes through 2027.
