How To Unlock Chapter Select In NieR: Automata

Unlocking Chapter Select requires completing one of the game's true endings. This involves finishing all three playthroughs and selecting a specific ending during the final confrontation of the third playthrough. While referred to as playthroughs, they're often called chapters by the community, as each tells a distinct part of the overall narrative.

After viewing the credits of a playthrough, save the game. Reload that save to begin the next section, playing as the subsequent character. The final playthrough involves multiple character switches; completing it unlocks Chapter Select for that save file.

How Chapter Select Functions In NieR: Automata

Access the Chapter Select menu in two ways:

• From the main menu of the save file upon loading the game.
• From any access point within the game world.

This menu lets you select any chapter to load, retaining all aspects of your profile: weapons, level, and items. When loading a chapter featuring multiple characters, you choose which character to play as.

Note that completed side quests cannot be replayed, regardless of the chapter loaded. Always save at an access point before switching chapters; otherwise, progress (levels and items) made in the current chapter will be lost. Chapter Select is ideal for completing all content and revisiting choices to obtain all possible endings.
