Ninja Gaiden Returns with Phil Spencer's Revival
Team Ninja's long-awaited Ninja Gaiden 4 is finally on the horizon, thanks to a collaborative effort between Team Ninja, Koei Tecmo, and PlatinumGames. Producer Fumihiko Yasuda revealed that the studio had struggled to solidify a concept for a new installment for years. However, conversations between Koei Tecmo's Hisashi Koinuma, PlatinumGames' Atsushi Inaba, and ultimately, Xbox's Phil Spencer, led to the three companies uniting to bring the project to life.
Spencer confirmed discussions began as early as 2017, with the goal of a sequel. PlatinumGames, renowned for its high-octane action titles like Bayonetta and NieR: Automata, proved to be the ideal partner to realize Team Ninja's vision.
The surprise announcement last week was coupled with the unexpected release of a remastered Ninja Gaiden 2 Black for Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC.
Initial trailers showcase Ryu Hayabusa's return as the protagonist in this action-slasher. Gameplay footage hints at innovative mechanics, including agile traversal using wires and rails, setting it apart from previous entries.
While DOOM: The Dark Ages dominated the Developer_Direct, the reveal of Ninja Gaiden 4 was a significant highlight. The game is slated for release in Fall 2025.
