Nintendo Showcase Raises Anticipation for Switch Successor

Pokémon Presents on February 27th: No Switch 2 Announcements Expected

Pokémon fans anticipating news about Switch 2 Pokémon titles during the upcoming Pokémon Presents on February 27th may be disappointed. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 reveal, it appears the Pokémon franchise will remain on the original Switch console for the foreseeable future.

The February 27th presentation will likely focus on Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a title confirmed for the original Switch. Nintendo has yet to officially unveil the Switch 2, but confirmed details include backward compatibility with the original Switch and account carryover. Information beyond this is currently based on leaks, describing the Switch 2 as a more powerful, larger iteration of its predecessor.

Although future Pokémon games are undoubtedly destined for the Switch 2, insider information indicates that the February 27th event will showcase titles developed for the original Switch, all of which will be playable on the new console due to backward compatibility.

No Switch 2 Pokémon News Expected

The Pokémon Presents will likely include updates on ongoing live-service titles like Pokémon GO and Pokémon Trading Card Game Live. Beyond Pokémon Legends: Z-A, rumors suggest another main-series Pokémon game is in the works for a 2024 release. Speculation points towards Pokémon Black and White remakes or a new Let's Go installment, both anticipated for the original Switch.

This aligns with the Pokémon franchise's historical tendency to prioritize consoles with larger installed bases. The release of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 for the original DS, rather than the 3DS, serves as a precedent.

Therefore, the first Pokémon games exclusive to the Switch 2 are likely to be the Generation 10 titles. However, until official confirmation on February 27th, this remains speculation.
