Nintendo Switch 2 Unveils New C Button on Joy-Con
Nintendo has officially confirmed that the enigmatic new button on the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con is the C button, validating earlier rumors.
The confirmation emerged through the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, with its App Store and Google Play listings featuring an image that clearly displays the C on the button upon close inspection.
The button was first showcased alongside the Switch 2 earlier this year, though initial images of the Joy-Con did not reveal a letter. Previous reports hinted at it being dubbed the “C” button, and this has now been confirmed.

Speculation abounds regarding the button’s purpose. Some theorize it could enable wireless casting of the Switch 2 to a TV or facilitate screen sharing. Others suggest it might toggle the Joy-Con’s functionality, such as switching to a mouse mode. There’s also buzz about potential ties to new group or voice chat features.
Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, which should shed more light on the matter. For now, here’s what’s confirmed:
The Nintendo Switch 2 launches in 2025, likely after June based on the hands-on event timeline. It’s larger than the original Switch, featuring bigger Joy-Con that appear to double as a mouse. The Switch 2 includes two USB-C ports, one on top and one on the bottom, unlike the single port on the original. The console is backward compatible, with the reveal video confirming support for both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, alongside Switch 2 exclusives. Some original Switch games may not be fully compatible, however. A new Mario Kart title is in development for the Switch 2.
