Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrades Announced for Games like Breath of the Wild, Metroid Prime 4

by Nora May 14,2025

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly all games from the original Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, several beloved titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions with exclusive features. These include iconic games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

The enhancements vary across games. Super Mario Party: Jamboree introduces "Jamboree TV," featuring mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced haptic feedback labeled as "more expressive rumble," and gameplay integration with a new camera accessory. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will benefit from improved resolution, higher framerates, and HDR support. They will also feature a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which offers voice guidance for locating Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share in-game creations via QR codes.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled "Star-Crossed World," along with upgraded graphics and framerates. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls, boasting 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will enjoy enhanced resolution and framerates.

These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. For owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, allowing them to access the enhanced features at a reduced cost.

The Direct also highlighted third-party titles receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, such as Civilization 7 with mouse support and Street Fighter 6 featuring exclusive game modes.

This news follows last week's hint about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games, which appeared in a footnote on a newly announced Virtual Game Card system page, noting that these upgraded versions cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
