Nintendo Switch 2's Dimensions Revealed

by Noah Feb 24,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2, revealed in a recent trailer, is significantly larger than its predecessor. While Nintendo hasn't released official dimensions, a comparison with a Genki mock-up, remarkably accurate to the trailer's depiction, allows for a reasonable estimate.

Genki mock-up vs. official Switch 2 design.

Switch 2 Screen Size:

The estimated screen size is 8 inches diagonally (approximately 177mm wide x 99mm tall), a substantial 30% increase diagonally and 66% increase in area compared to the original Switch's 6.2-inch screen. This surpasses the Switch Lite (45% larger diagonally, 111% larger in area) and the Switch OLED (14% larger diagonally, 30% larger in area). While larger than the Steam Deck's 7-inch screen, the Switch 2's 8-inch display is still slightly smaller than the Steam Deck OLED's 7.4-inch screen.

Switch 2 Overall Console Size:

Based on the Genki mock-up, the estimated dimensions are approximately 265mm long and 115mm tall. This represents a roughly 25% increase in size compared to the original Switch (239mm x 102mm), making it significantly larger than the Switch Lite (61% larger) but slightly smaller than the Steam Deck (12% smaller). The depth is expected to be similar to the original Switch.

Switch 2 Joy-Con Size:

The Joy-Cons are estimated to be approximately 32mm wide and 115mm tall—the same width as the originals but 13mm taller (a 13% increase).

Switch 2 Screen Unit Size:

Subtracting the Joy-Con dimensions from the overall console size, the screen unit is estimated at 200mm long and 115mm tall (31% larger than the original Switch). This allows for relatively slim bezels.

These dimensions are estimations based on the Genki mock-up and analysis of the trailer. While not official, the close resemblance suggests these figures are a strong approximation of the final product. Expect a noticeably larger console than its predecessor.
