Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Release Date Delivery Not Guaranteed Amid High Demand

Nintendo has issued a warning to its U.S. fans eagerly awaiting the release of the Switch 2, signaling potential delivery delays due to high demand. The company updated its website to inform those who registered their interest in purchasing the console from the My Nintendo Store that delivery on the June 5 release date cannot be guaranteed. As a result, invitation emails to complete purchases might arrive after the console's launch. However, Nintendo reassures customers that they will confirm the shipping date upon purchase.

“Thank you to those of you who have already registered your interest in purchasing from My Nintendo Store,” Nintendo’s statement read. “We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase.”

Nintendo also suggests that fans might have a better chance of securing a Switch 2 at launch by pre-ordering from third-party retailers. This advice comes in light of the fact that pre-orders at these outlets, including GameStop, sold out quickly. “If you wish to increase your opportunity of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 system at launch, please visit our participating retail partners above,” the statement directs, linking to GameStop, where the Switch 2 is currently sold out.

The challenges faced by fans during the pre-order phase on April 24, combined with Nintendo's warning, indicate that obtaining a Switch 2 around its launch will be difficult.

Earlier this week, Nintendo warned its Japanese customers that a significant number would miss out on direct pre-orders from the company. In a statement on X / Twitter, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that 2.2 million people in Japan had applied to pre-order the Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store, far exceeding the company's expectations and available stock for the June 5 launch.

According to an FAQ on Nintendo’s website, the first batch of invitation emails for the U.S. My Nintendo Store will be sent starting May 8, 2025. Subsequent batches will be sent periodically until the purchasing process is open to everyone. Initial emails will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible registrants who meet specific priority criteria. Invitees will have 72 hours from the time the email is sent to complete their purchase.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitation priority requirements:

• You must have purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership.
• You must have had any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for a minimum of 12 months.
• You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours total gameplay hours.

Last week, Nintendo announced that Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. would begin on April 24, 2025, maintaining the original price of $449.99 and the launch date of June 5. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will also remain priced at $499.99, while the physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza will stay at $79.99 and $69.99, respectively.
