Nvidia Issues RTX 5090 and 5080 Stock Shortage Warning to PC Gamers Ahead of Hotly Anticipated Release Date

by Mia Feb 19,2025

The highly anticipated Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are set to launch on January 30th, but concerns about limited availability are already surfacing. Reports from retailers and manufacturers indicate potential shortages, fueling anxieties among eager buyers.

With consumers already lining up outside stores, the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are expected to be extremely popular despite their hefty price tags of $1,999 and $999 respectively. MSI, a major manufacturer, attributes the initial scarcity to the Lunar New Year, anticipating stock levels to improve in February.

5 ImagesRetailers are echoing these concerns, with some reporting extremely low initial stock allocations for the RTX 5090. One retailer even described the RTX 5090 launch as having the "worst availability."

In response to the growing concerns, Nvidia issued a statement acknowledging the high demand and anticipating potential stockouts. The company assures consumers that it and its partners are actively working to increase retail supply.

However, the limited supply is already attracting scalpers. Pre-sale listings on eBay are showing inflated prices, with one Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 listed for a staggering $5,750 – a significant markup of 187% over the MSRP.

Adding to Nvidia's challenges, the company's share price experienced a significant drop following the announcement of a new Chinese AI model, DeepSeek, which reportedly achieved comparable results at a fraction of the cost, potentially impacting Nvidia's data center GPU sales.
