"Oblivion Remastered Retains Iconic Line Flub"

by Zoe May 14,2025

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered brings a fresh take on one of Bethesda's landmark titles, enhancing visuals, gameplay mechanics, and more, yet the team at Virtuos chose to preserve one of the original game's most memorable lines.

Veteran fans of The Elder Scrolls series are well-acquainted with Master Speechcraft trainer Tandilwe, the High Elf residing in the Temple of the One within the Imperial City. When Oblivion first hit the shelves for PC and Xbox 360 over 19 years ago, it became evident that Tandilwe might have benefited from her own training. One of her voice lines includes what many believe to be a mistakenly recorded attempt by actress Linda Kenyon to perfect her delivery.

As players embarked on their journey through a rejuvenated Cyrodiil yesterday, many were eager to assess the fidelity of this ground-up remaster. While numerous environments, character models, and items have been revamped, fans have been delighted to find that many cherished imperfections from the 2006 version of Oblivion remain untouched. Tandilwe’s iconic (and amusing) blooper has returned to the delight of many, preserved exactly as it was nearly two decades ago, complete with the absence of subtitles.

In a 2019 interview on YouTube with Jake 'The Voice' Parr, Linda Kenyon, upon learning of her Oblivion blooper's fame, humorously defended herself by stating, "It wasn't my fault!"

While thousands of players dive into Oblivion Remastered, debates swirl around whether this Bethesda re-release leans more towards a remake than a remaster. However, many are pleased to see that much of the original game's quirky charm has been preserved. Both Bethesda and Virtuos were committed to retaining these elements, and the response from both new and returning players has been overwhelmingly positive.
