Oblivion Remastered Update Causes Visual Glitches; Bethesda Seeks Fix

by Lucy May 25,2025

PC players of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered encountered unexpected issues following a surprise update released today, but Bethesda has assured fans that a solution is in the works. The update, which was rolled out without any patch notes or explanation, was meant to be a minor adjustment, according to Bethesda. However, it has caused significant problems, particularly for those who purchased the game through the Microsoft Store.

A Reddit user highlighted a common issue, stating, "Can't change the upscaling methods anymore. It's set to 'off' and while the arrows are clickable nothing happens. So I closed the game, disabled fluid motion in the NVidia app (was testing something before the patch came) and started the game again. Loading times for my save are long again and still can't change upscaling settings lol. Now I am stuck with 40-60 fps in high settings with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Nice patch :D"

While some players have not experienced significant performance changes, many others are struggling with reduced framerates and locked upscaling settings. This has led to considerable frustration among fans, especially as they were gearing up for Oblivion Remastered’s first weekend in players’ hands.

Are you playing Oblivion for the first time with Remastered, or did you play the original first?

Bethesda has responded to the community's concerns on its official support page, clarifying that the update was intended for "a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting gameplay." Despite this, it has inadvertently affected the upscaling and anti-aliasing options for Microsoft Store users. Bethesda stated, "Any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix are still enabled and function normally. However, you will temporarily be unable to adjust those settings due to the issue with the settings UI. The team is taking a look and working out a resolution, we will share more info as soon as we can."

Currently, there is no definite timeline for when the fix will be available. Meanwhile, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S can continue enjoying the game without any reported issues.
