Obsidian RPG Avowed Can Hit 60FPS on Xbox Series X

by Aria Mar 04,2025

Obsidian's Avowed: 60 FPS on Xbox Series X Confirmed, Series S Locked at 30 FPS

Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's highly anticipated RPG, will achieve a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second (fps) on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in a MinnMax interview. While Patel didn't elaborate on specifics, the confirmation clarifies previous reports. The Xbox Series S version, as previously announced, will remain capped at 30 fps.

Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes (60 fps with lower visuals vs. 30 fps with enhanced visuals) remains unconfirmed. It's possible the Series X will default to 60 fps without requiring a mode switch.

The game's release date presents a curious pricing structure. Early access begins February 13th for those purchasing the premium edition ($89.99), while the standard edition ($69.99) launches on February 18th. This staggered release, a growing trend among publishers, has already been abandoned by companies such as Ubisoft.

Avowed, set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and impactful decisions. Players will unravel mysteries, navigate conflicts, and forge relationships (or rivalries) within a rich narrative tapestry of war and intrigue.

IGN's final preview lauded Avowed's engaging dialogue, player freedom, and overall enjoyable gameplay, describing it as "just a lot of fun."
