Obsidian's CEO Confirms Smooth Progress on The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed
Obsidian Remains Confident in Upcoming Releases
According to Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart, development of *The Outer Worlds 2* is progressing well. While the studio's primary focus remains on *Avowed*, Urquhart reassured fans that the *Outer Worlds* sequel is making excellent headway. In a recent YouTube interview with Limit Break Network, Urquhart praised the development team's work on The Outer Worlds 2. He highlighted the experience and dedication of the team members, many of whom worked on the original game.
Urquhart acknowledged the significant challenges the studio faced, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and following their acquisition by Microsoft. Simultaneous development of multiple titles, including Grounded and Pentiment, placed considerable strain on the team. He candidly admitted a period of slowed development, even mentioning discussions about potentially halting The Outer Worlds 2 to focus resources on Avowed. However, the studio ultimately persevered, continuing development across all projects.
"We were acquired [in 2018], then navigated the acquisition process, and then COVID hit," Urquhart recalled. "We were juggling Outer Worlds, its DLC, Avowed, the launch of Outer Worlds 2, Grounded, and Josh's work on Pentiment."
Reflecting on this period, Urquhart emphasized the successful outcomes of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed his enthusiasm for the progress of Avowed and the "incredible" progress of The Outer Worlds 2. While specific game details were not revealed, given the delay of Avowed to 2025, similar schedule adjustments for other projects are anticipated.
Announced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited updates since. Urquhart acknowledged this and the possibility of a launch delay, mirroring the situation with Avowed. However, he reaffirmed the studio's commitment to delivering high-quality games. "We'll deliver on all these games," he stated. "Will they meet our initial timelines? No. But we'll get there, and that's been proven." Both games are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
