Onimusha: Way of the Sword New Trailer Shows Off New Gameplay, Protagonist
Capcom unveils new gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The trailer, showcased at the PlayStation State of Play event, features the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi as the protagonist.
The trailer provides a sneak peek at the game's impressive sword-based combat and formidable enemies. Musashi's fighting prowess is clearly on display, alongside glimpses of his mischievous and humorous personality.
Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the renowned actor Toshiro Mifune, known for his portrayal of Musashi in various samurai films.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
