by Carter May 23,2025

Ever since the upcoming DLC for Lies of P, titled Overture, was announced, fans have been buzzing with speculation about the mysteries it might unveil. At the recent Game Developers Conference, IGN uncovered one mystery that the DLC won't address: the base game's surprising final cutscene.

For those yet to experience the end of Lies of P, here's a spoiler-free summary: the game concludes with a cutscene hinting at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe. This intriguing scene has sparked discussions on how it might be developed further and whether the DLC would provide any answers. However, Lies of P director Jiwon Choi clarified that this cutscene is unrelated to the DLC. He teased, "Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future."

Neowiz has also announced a sequel to Lies of P, suggesting that the mysterious cutscene might be setting the stage for Lies of P 2. However, details about the sequel remain scarce, and Choi refrained from dropping any hints during our conversation.

Choi emphasized Neowiz's commitment to quality, stating, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

The scene in question, dubbed the "Dorothy scene," features Paracelsus on a phone call, mentioning, "I will find her, for sure. Another key of ours: Dorothy." The scene then reveals Dorothy's iconic striped sock legs and ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, hinting at a connection to other public domain fairy tales. While this suggests intriguing developments for the Lies of P universe, it won't be explored in Overture.

Choi shared some insights into what Overture will include. He encouraged fans to replay the base game, as it contains clues hinting at the DLC's content: "When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience," Choi explained. "A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that are going to be included in expansion."

He also noted that some fans have already begun to piece together these hints, with Choi admitting to regularly reading fan theories online, saying, "some of them are quite close."

Additional details about Overture include its estimated playtime of 15-20 hours for experienced players. The DLC will become available after reaching a "certain" chapter of the game and can be accessed until the end. As a prequel, Overture transports the main character back in time to Krat just before its fall, featuring new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons. Choi remained tight-lipped about specific details, saving the surprises for the release.
