Palworld Dating Sim: Not an April Fools' Joke, Dev Confirms

by Caleb May 13,2025

Developer Pocketpair has exciting news for fans of their massively popular monster-catching game, Palworld. They've announced a new addition to their universe titled Palworld! More Than Just Pals, a dating sim that promises to bring a touch of romance to the franchise. Announced on March 31, 2025, this isn't an April Fools' Day prank, despite the timing raising some eyebrows among fans who are wary of the flood of fake game announcements that typically come with the start of April.

Pocketpair is keen to dispel any doubts: Palworld! More Than Just Pals is a legitimate project. The concept originated from their 2024 April Fools' Day stunt, which introduced the idea as a jest. Now, it's becoming a reality, set to launch on PC via Steam at a yet-to-be-announced date.

This dating sim takes players to Palagos Private Academy, where they enroll as a transfer student. Here, players can befriend and potentially fall in love with a diverse cast of student Pals, including characters like the "cute" and "mysterious" Katress and the "timid" Chillet, all familiar names from the Palworld universe. The game offers players the freedom to choose their path, whether it's maintaining friendships, pursuing romance, or taking a darker turn with the Pals.

Pocketpair's official statement reads, "You, the protagonist, enroll as a transfer student in the prestigious Palagos Private Academy. You will meet unique friends (pals) and enjoy school life through friendship and romance. It's up to you whether you stay friends with the pals, develop romantic relationships with them, or even dismember and eat them."

To reassure fans, Bucky from the Palworld team tweeted, "This doesn't concern April Fools :)" on March 31, 2025, emphasizing the game's legitimacy.

As Palworld itself celebrated its one-year anniversary in January 2025, it continues to evolve with new updates, including crossplay support, Blueprint upgrades, and a photo mode. These updates should keep fans engaged while they await Palworld! More Than Just Pals. Additionally, there's a glimmer of hope for a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Palworld, and fans are hopeful that the dating sim might also make its way to the console in the future.
