Pebbles vs. Herring in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: Which to Choose?

by Scarlett Apr 27,2025

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the choice between Pebbles and Herring as your trusty steed is crucial, especially given the extensive travel you'll undertake throughout the game. Let's delve into the details to help you make the best decision for your journey.

How to Find Pebbles in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

You'll have the opportunity to reunite with Pebbles at the Semine estate before the wedding between Lord Semine and Agnes. She's available at the stables, but you'll need to purchase her if you wish to ride her during your quest with Jan Semine, known as "The Jaunt." Pebbles isn't just any horse; she's Henry's trusted companion, akin to Mutt, who you can also encounter through side quests.

How to Receive Herring in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Herring becomes available after completing the quest "For Whom the Bell Tolls." If you haven't acquired Pebbles or another horse by this point, Otto von Bergow will gift you Herring. However, if you already have a horse and decide against keeping Herring, you can sell him to nomad traders through Kabat for 300 Groschen.

At first glance, Herring might seem the superior choice due to his higher base stats. However, this can be misleading. Each horse in the game unlocks a unique perk after being ridden for a certain distance, which significantly boosts their stats. The distance required varies between horses, and this is where Pebbles shines.

Pebbles requires you to ride her for just 35 kilometers to unlock her perk, compared to Herring's 50 kilometers. Once unlocked, Pebbles' boosted stats are impressive:

  • Stamina: 217
  • Capacity: 353
  • Speed: 53
  • Courage: 12

Not only are these stats solid, but Pebbles is also available at a lower cost than many other horses. Additionally, the sentimental value of riding with a horse that has been with Henry since before the game's events adds a personal touch to your journey.

Given the extensive travel and the need for a reliable companion, Pebbles emerges as the best choice for Henry in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Her early availability, faster perk unlock, and decent stats make her an excellent bargain and a faithful steed for the adventures ahead.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
