Persona 4 Revival Confirmed at Xbox Showcase
Atlus has finally pulled back the curtain on one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming: a full remake of Persona 4 is officially in development.
In a short but impactful trailer, the studio unveiled Persona 4 Revival (P4R), coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The title will also be available from day one on Xbox Game Pass, ensuring broad access for players eager to dive into the refreshed experience. While the trailer didn't reveal much gameplay, the environments glimpsed showcased a substantial visual upgrade over the original release.
Following the announcement, Kazuhisa Wada, director at P-Studio, shared some heartfelt thoughts with fans:
We are very pleased to announce the release of Persona 4 Revival. We look forward to sharing even more information in due time.
Persona 4 has given rise to many spin-off titles such as the TV anime adaptation, Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and Persona 4: Dancing All Night. It's a cherished title that has been close to Atlus—and personally to me—for many years. We're pouring all our passion and love into this project. We believe this will offer something fresh and exciting for both newcomers and longtime fans alike, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.
In addition, our studio is actively preparing for the continued development of the Persona series. We’re working hard to meet the expectations of fans worldwide, and progress is moving along steadily. Please stay tuned for future updates.
We truly appreciate your ongoing support for the Persona series.
Speculation about a proper Persona 4 remake has circulated among fans for months, supported by clues such as recently registered domain names, insider reports, and most notably, several original voice actors hinting they wouldn’t return for an unannounced project—prompting waves of speculation across social media.
Originally released to critical acclaim, Persona 4 earned a 9/10 review from IGN, which praised it as “a significant improvement over the previous Persona games in many ways,” highlighting its deepened dungeon-crawling mechanics and engaging Social Link system. A later enhanced version, Persona 4 Golden, became the definitive way to experience the game, though it remains absent on Nintendo Switch despite years of fan demand.
