by Claire May 05,2025

Following the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, it appears that the collaboration between Nintendo and Xbox is set to continue seamlessly. Phil Spencer, Microsoft's head of gaming, recently reiterated his commitment to supporting the Switch platform, emphasizing its importance in reaching audiences who do not typically use Xbox or PC platforms.

In a recent interview with Variety, Spencer was queried about any specific projects planned for the Nintendo Switch 2. He responded by affirming that just as Xbox has supported the original Switch, it intends to extend the same level of support to the Switch 2.

"Nintendo has been a great partner. We think it is a unique way for us to reach players who aren’t PC players, who aren’t players on Xbox," Spencer stated. "It lets us continue to grow our community of people that care about the franchises that we have, and that’s really important for us to make sure we continue to invest in our games."

Play"I’m really a big believer in what Nintendo means for this industry and us continuing to support them," Spencer added. "And getting the support from them for our franchises, I think, is an important part of our future."

Spencer has consistently praised the Nintendo Switch 2, particularly highlighting Nintendo's innovative approach since the initial teaser of the Switch 2. He has also confirmed that Xbox will continue to expand the availability of its games across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo consoles.

When asked by Variety if the Switch 2's reveal made him eager to unveil Xbox's upcoming console plans, Spencer remained unfazed.

"No. I think all of us in this industry should focus on our communities and the player base that we’re building," he explained. "I get inspired by what a lot of different creators do and other platform holders. But I believe in the plans that we have."

Spencer reiterated Xbox's commitment to delivering games across various platforms, including cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already been released on Nintendo platforms, and it will be intriguing to see what Xbox has in store for the Switch 2 once it launches.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to officially debut on June 5, 2025. While pre-orders have not yet started, keep an eye on our Switch 2 pre-order hub page for the latest updates on when they might become available.
