PlayStation Logo Pops Up on Work-in-Progress Starfield Creation, Sparking PS5 Release Speculation

by Adam Mar 26,2025

Speculation about Starfield potentially coming to PlayStation 5 intensified over the weekend when fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website. The logo appeared on a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield, sparking discussions about the game's possible expansion to PS5. Although the Creation was removed, the brief appearance of the logo has fueled rumors about Bethesda's plans for their sci-fi title, which has so far been exclusive to PC and Xbox.

They have added the Playstation logo to a creation. (I think they are beta testers, the logo only appears on one creation)

The speculation has led to questions about whether Bethesda might be planning a significant content update or even a new expansion alongside a PS5 release. After the lukewarm reception to the Shattered Space expansion, Bethesda has remained quiet about Starfield. However, Microsoft, Bethesda's parent company, is expected to host a summer showcase this year, which could be the perfect opportunity to reveal more about Starfield's future.

Bethesda has hinted at "exciting things" planned for Starfield this year, amidst growing player dissatisfaction over communication and updates. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Starfield and announced at least one more story expansion following Shattered Space. In an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard expressed their aim to release an annual story expansion for "hopefully a very long time."

Starfield launched in September 2023, marking Bethesda's first new intellectual property in years and their first mainline single-player game since Microsoft's acquisition of parent company ZeniMax Media in March 2021. IGN's review of Starfield gave it a 7/10, stating: "Starfield has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist."

In January, Microsoft's gaming chief, Phil Spencer, did not rule out the possibility of Starfield coming to PS5. Reports from as early as March 2024 suggested that both Starfield and MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were being considered for PS5. While Indiana Jones has been confirmed for a PS5 release in spring 2025, Starfield remains unconfirmed, though Spencer's comments hinted at its potential arrival on the platform.

Several Xbox titles are already available on PS5, including Rare's Sea of Thieves, Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush, and Obsidian's Grounded and Pentiment. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft games across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, and plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Additionally, Playground's Forza Horizon 5 is slated to arrive on PS5 soon. There are even rumors that Microsoft might bring Halo to PlayStation after decades of exclusivity.

Spencer has emphasized that Xbox's multiplatform strategy is partly driven by the need to generate more revenue for Microsoft's gaming division, especially following the $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. He stated in August last year: "We run a business. It’s definitely true inside of Microsoft the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company. Because we get a level of support from the company that’s just amazing and what we’re able to go do. So I look at this, how can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platform continues to grow, on console, on PC, and on cloud. It’s just going to be a strategy that works for us."

Bethesda Game Studios, with its 450-person team, is currently juggling multiple projects: Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, mobile games, and external development partnerships.
