Pokémon Champions, Game Freak's Leaked Multiplayer Game, Officially Revealed

by Zachary Mar 29,2025

After months of speculation and leaks, we've finally been treated to the first glimpse of Pokémon Champions, a groundbreaking multiplayer battle-centric Pokémon game. This exciting new title is the result of a collaboration between Game Freak and The Pokémon Works, a recent joint venture between The Pokémon Company and ILCA, the developers behind Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Pokémon Champions is designed to immerse players in the heart of Pokémon battles, featuring the series' beloved "core-style battles" and enabling online multiplayer combat. The trailer showcased the inclusion of both Mega Evolution and Terastalization, hinting at a comprehensive experience that spans various types and eras of Pokémon battles.

PlayOne of the most exciting features of **Pokémon Champions** is its integration with **Pokémon Home**. This connectivity allows players to transfer Pokémon from other games into **Pokémon Champions**, providing a fresh purpose for the countless Pokémon that have been stored away in boxes from previous generations.

Currently in development for both Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms, Pokémon Champions did not receive a specific release date during its reveal. However, it will be available in Latin American Spanish at launch, alongside other languages traditionally supported in Pokémon games.

Pokémon Champions appears to be the same project as Pokémon Synapse, which was initially leaked last year during the "Freak Leak" incident. This leak exposed a wealth of internal Game Freak information, including unreleased games, meeting notes, and Pokémon designs. At the time, it was known that Pokémon Synapse was being co-developed by Game Freak and ILCA, though many details were still in flux and somewhat speculative. Early reports suggested it was a multiplayer game, with some drawing comparisons to Splatoon, though these comparisons now seem to have been slightly off the mark.
