by Samuel Apr 21,2025

The Pokémon Company has officially announced that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be entering the competitive circuit anytime soon. For those eager to learn more about the future of Pokémon TCG Pocket in the competitive scene and the potential reasons behind this decision, read on.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet

No Plans For Competitive Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

According to Chris Brown, the Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, there are currently no plans to integrate Pokémon TCG Pocket into the competitive circuit. During an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Brown shared that while the company continuously evaluates different titles for inclusion in the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't on the immediate agenda. He humorously mentioned "Pokémon Sleep" as well, referencing a past April Fool's parody trailer about a Pokémon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he firmly stated, "But at this time there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."

Too Early And Unbalanced

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

While The Pokémon Company hasn't explicitly outlined reasons for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have come up with their own theories. The game, launched in October 2024, has only been out for four months and has released two sets. This suggests it may still be in its early stages, not yet ready for competitive play.

Despite having competitive features available in the app from the start, players have been vocal about the need for better balancing. Pokémon TCG Pocket is a simplified version of the original Pokémon card game, designed to be more accessible to beginners. Its primary focus isn't on fostering a competitive atmosphere.

Nevertheless, The Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains vibrant, offering events for Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will be highlighted at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025, held in Anaheim, California.

Despite the lack of new information since its initial announcement in 2024, fans remain enthusiastic about Pokémon Legends: Z-A, expected to release in 2025. There's speculation that the livestream might reveal new mega evolutions or other exciting details related to the game.
