James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, is known for collaborating with familiar faces. Now, a star from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy confirms discussions about joining the DC Universe.

The DC Universe (DCU) aims to create a successful shared universe, learning from the inconsistencies and studio interference that plagued the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU). While the DCEU had its successes, many projects lacked cohesion. Gunn, known for his Guardians of the Galaxy films, hopes to avoid these pitfalls and may bring some familiar actors along.

According to Agents of Fandom, Pom Klementieff, who played Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy, has confirmed discussions with Gunn about a DCU role. At San Antonio's Superhero Comic Con, when asked which DC character she'd like to play, Klementieff playfully avoided a direct answer, but confirmed Gunn has a specific role in mind.

I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that. Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now.

Klementieff also reflected positively on her experience working with Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy, highlighting her journey from aspiring X-Men actress to a Marvel star. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 concluding the original team's story, Klementieff expressed openness to reprising her role as Mantis, depending on the project.

I'm always open to it, I love the character. I'm sure the fans would love to see it, but I don't know. It depends on the project.

Gunn himself later confirmed these conversations on Threads, clarifying that the role isn't in the upcoming Superman movie. While the specific DC character remains undisclosed, the news has sparked debate. Some criticize Gunn's tendency to cast familiar faces, including family members, while others argue this is a common practice among filmmakers. Ultimately, Klementieff's suitability for the role remains to be seen.

The Guardians of the Galaxy films are streaming on Disney+.
