Preorder Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 Graphics Cards Now

by Oliver May 16,2025

The wait is finally over for Nvidia enthusiasts! The first wave of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards will be available for preorder starting at 6am PT on January 30. The initial release includes the top-tier models: the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. Fans of the mid-range options won't have to wait long either, as the RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti are slated to hit the market later in February.

Be prepared for a fast sell-out as launch-day stocks are likely to be snapped up within hours, if not minutes. Retailers have already cautioned about potential shortages, and past Nvidia GPU launches have been plagued by bots scooping up cards for resale at inflated prices. If you're ready and fortunate enough to find one in stock, don't hesitate to secure your purchase. Alternatively, consider prebuilt PCs equipped with the RTX 5090, which might stay in stock longer, though at a higher cost.

How much will the new Nvidia RTX 50-series GPU cost?

----------------------------------------------------

While only the RTX 5090 and 5080 will be available in January, Nvidia has disclosed the pricing for all four anticipated models:

  • RTX 5090 - $1,999
  • RTX 5080 - $999
  • RTX 5070 Ti - $749
  • RTX 5070 - $549

Where should I preorder a RTX 5090 or 5080 GPU?

-----------------------------------------------

Various retailers have listed the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards for sale on their websites, but the exact number of units available at each retailer remains uncertain. To increase your chances of securing one of these RTX 50-series cards on launch day, it's advisable to check each retailer and proceed to checkout with the first available card. Remember, you'll be competing with potentially thousands of others, so even if you see a GPU in stock, you might not be able to complete the purchase. As someone eager to get my hands on an RTX 5090, I've outlined the advantages of checking different retailers below.

Despite its power, the RTX 5090 FE boasts a slim 2-slot cooling solution that's smaller than the 4090.

Best Buy

0See it at Best Buy

Based on previous Nvidia GPU launches, Best Buy is likely one of your best bets for securing an RTX 5090 or RTX 5080 online, especially the Founder's Edition. Currently, they list only FE and Gigabyte graphics cards, but expect more from Asus, MSI, and Zotac to be added soon. Your chances of getting a GPU are higher if you're in an area with lower demand. Best Buy's preorders ship out or become available for in-store pickup quickly, meaning you could have your card within days rather than weeks or months.

Newegg

Newegg should also be a priority. They offer the widest selection of AIB 5090 and 5080 graphics cards, which are non-reference models from third-party manufacturers. With 43 different models listed, including every model from Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, and Zotac, you're likely to find something that suits your needs. Just ensure you're buying directly from Newegg and not from a marketplace vendor to get the full manufacturer's warranty. Even if standalone cards are sold out, Newegg offers bundle kits with the 5080 and 5090, which might be advantageous if you're building a PC and haven't bought all your components yet.

Nvidia Store

You might think the Nvidia Store would be the go-to place for RTX 5090 or 5080, but the Founder's Edition, which is highly sought after, is rarely in stock here. However, if you're a loyal Nvidia customer, there's hope. Nvidia has previously sent out special invites for RTX 40-series cards to those who registered Nvidia GPUs or signed up for notifications through GeForce Experience or the Nvidia app. Keep an eye out for similar opportunities with the RTX 50-series.

Amazon

Amazon is your one-stop shop for virtually everything, including Nvidia GPUs. However, finding one can be challenging as there's no dedicated page listing all available video cards, and the search results are often cluttered with overpriced or misleading listings from marketplace vendors. To simplify your search, I'll update specific GPU models when available, but always ensure the vendor is Amazon direct to avoid scams or inflated prices.

Adorama

Adorama has listed AIB RTX 5080 and 5090 GPUs for preorder, along with several pre-built gaming PCs featuring these GPUs. However, be aware that Adorama's preorder queue can be slower than other vendors, with some customers waiting months for their GPUs to ship. Even if you secure a preorder here, keep checking other retailers for potentially faster delivery. Adorama is known for camera sales and printing services but is also a legitimate Nvidia reseller with a physical store in NYC.

B&H Photo

B&H Photo currently lists 17 RTX 5090 and 21 RTX 5080 GPUs. Similar to Adorama, preorders might take a while to ship, so even after securing one, continue looking at other retailers for quicker delivery options. B&H Photo, like Adorama, started as a camera and print store and has grown into a large ecommerce platform, serving as an authorized Nvidia reseller.

Micro Center (In-Store)

If you live near a Micro Center, it's your best chance to get an RTX 5090 or 5080 on launch day. They typically reserve all GPU sales for in-store customers, so arrive early. Some enthusiasts have already started camping out to secure their cards.

We reviewed the RTX 5090 FE and 5080 FE GPUs

--------------------------------------------

The Nvidia 50 series GPUs were officially announced at CES 2025, with a focus on enhanced AI features rather than traditional raster performance. The new DLSS 4 technology is claimed to quadruple frame rates with minimal visual compromise. While these GPUs do offer a performance boost, opinions vary on their value compared to the previous RTX 40 series.

In our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE review, Jackie Thomas noted, "The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has officially taken the performance crown from the RTX 4090, but with less force than previous generations. For traditional non-AI gaming, the RTX 5090 offers one of the smallest generational uplifts we've seen recently. However, in games that support DLSS 4, the performance gains are significant – just remember that 75% of the frames are generated with AI."

Jackie also shared similar thoughts in our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review, stating, "For those with a recent high-end graphics card, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 might not be compelling – it doesn't significantly outperform the RTX 4080, though DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation does enhance visuals in supported games. However, for gamers with older cards looking for a substantial upgrade, the RTX 5080 delivers, especially if you're open to Nvidia's AI enhancements."
